Manchester United have added yet another left-back to their transfer wish list as Erik ten Hag weighs up a raft of late-summer transfer opportunities. Nicolas Tagliafico is the latest star linked to Old Trafford, with the Red Devils also mulling over moves for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Leonardo Spinazzola.

Luke Shaw's muscular injury has shaken up United's plan for the remainder of the window. Now, Ten Hag is believed to be intent on signing a left-back and a midfielder before Friday's deadline.

A variety of targets are being assessed in each position. Earlier this week, United were reportedly offered the chance to open talks for Tottenham midfielder Hojbjerg, while they also launched an enquiry for Roma star Spinazzola.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, contact has now been made with Lyon over a possible move for Tagliafico.

The Red Devils' approach was reportedly made with the intention of discovering what it would take to sign the player. Ten Hag worked with Tagliafico during his time at Ajax and could organise a reunion at Old Trafford.

The Argentine World Cup winner is one of numerous left-backs under consideration by senior United figures. Spinazzola is also on the list, while the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Ryan Bertrand and Marc Cucurella are in the mix too.

Having splashed out on Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana earlier this summer, United are relying on departures before Ten Hag can think about rounding off the window with a bang.

The glamour signing is likely to come in midfield, with the Red Devils believed to be prioritising a short-term solution at left-back due to Shaw's injury. Just like Tagliafico, Hojbjerg has previous experience working with Ten Hag, stemming from their time together at Bayern Munich's reserve side.

A shaky start to the season has added extra importance to United's late transfer dealings. Ten Hag has led his side to two wins from three Premier League matches thus far, although performances have been far from convincing.

Fans will hope that the introduction of Hojlund, who has been absent with a back injury since signing from Atalanta, can make the difference against Arsenal on Sunday.
